COP24 – A Meeting With Mixed Success

The Global Sourcing Council pursues profit with purpose through sustainable and responsible sourcing.

From the GSC Team:

The 24th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)  – COP24 – took place last month in Poland and included representatives from almost 200 countries. They were there to get global climate negotiations focused on producing a set of rules for the Paris Climate Agreement. In the end, there was good news and bad news. The representatives did agree on an overarching rulebook, but failed to address how countries will step up their targets to cut emissions.

The time has come for business to take the lead on climate actions.  What will inspire the business community to view its role as a custodian of natural resources and not only as a hungry user? Investors are beginning to make their voices heard and will likely play an important part in changing business behavior.

And for true inspiration listen to the TED talk by Greta Thunberg, the 15 year old climate activist from Sweden.

Her role and and other important details about COP24 are discussed in the lead article in our newsletter, provided by our GSC board member Arnaud Brohé, who is an expert on global carbon markets.
